Help make adoption possible

Adoption is expensive. We are putting a lot of our own personal money (we’ve already cleaned out our savings accounts!) into it, but we just don’t have  enough to cover all the agency fees and other expenses for both adoptions.

Since we’re looking for financial help, we want to be transparent about the costs and where the money is going. Most of the money we’ve spent so far has gone toward our China adoption, and we have 3-5 years to get the rest saved/raised.

The immediate need

Our urgent need right now is to raise the expenses needed for our Memphis adoption. We will need the money when we get placed—which could be as early as Christmas.

$50 - Preliminary application fee
$500 - Formal application fee
$150 - Home study renewal (we were able to re-use our China home study)
$2,500 - Support services and networking fee
$12,647 - Placement and post-placement services fee
$1,500 - Trips to Memphis (the last will be for 2 weeks while finalizing paperwork)
$800 - Baby/nursery supplies

-$13,000 - Federal tax credit (we’re getting a loan to cover this amount)

Amazingly, the federal government provides a $13K tax credit once each adoption is finalized, which means we can get a loan to cover that amount and only need to raise the remainder.
